Though it focuses narrowly on Judaism and Christianity, with a few articles on Islam and scattered mentionings of Persian, Greek, and Roman folk religions, such limiting was necessary to present this topic in an accessible manner. The three volumes comprise articles written by noted scholars of religious studies and literary criticism. Volume 1, edited by Collins (Univ. of Chicago), covers the beginnings of apocalypticism in the ancient Near East, moves through early Judaism, and ends at the Book of Revelation in the New Testament. Volume 2, edited by McGinn (Univ. of Chicago), begins with the apocalypticism in early Christian theology (100 C.E.) and concludes with discussions of apocalyptic influences in medieval and renaissance literature (up to 1800 C.E.). Of special interest are the articles by Roberto Rusconi on the Antichrist and by Robert E. Lerner on millennialism, both works relevant to anyone interested in biblical Armageddon. Volume 3, edited by Stein (Indiana Univ.), brings the discussion into the 20th century and focuses on the influences of apocalypticism on modern popular culture, art, science, politics, and thought. Although the articles are surprisingly readable for an academic text, the arcane nature of the topic makes casual reading difficult, and only those truly interested in a comprehensive exposition of apocalypticism will find treasures in this great work. There is nothing here for the fans of UFOs, crop circles, or the re-emergence of Atlantis or Mu. About the Author

Jack Halpern is the CEO of The CJK Dictionary Institute (CJKI) in Japan. The institute is one of the world's prime sources for CJK (Chinese, Japanese, and Korean) dictionaries, and specializes in compiling comprehensive CJK and Arabic lexical databases. A lexicographer by profession, Halpern spent more than twenty years compiling this dictionary and its predecessor, the New Japanese-English Character Dictionary.

You've got the "kanji bible" in your hands!

This book is awesome, it's got all the kanji you need to read and write today's Japanese; it shows stroke order for every character from the Joyo list (2,136 updated) except for the name kanji wich have got no stroke order. If that isn't enough the entries have Chinese reading for simplified hanzi (useful for those of us who study Chinese too can compare both languages inmediately!) and you must remember Chinese created the characters and Japanese, Koreans, Vietnamese just imported them, well if someday I met Jack Halpern I'd shake his hand for sure because he simplified everything to us.

The book is quite detailed having many different Kanji Compounds. A rare problem is that some words are obsolete and not marked so (verified through other dictionaries), otherwise a great book in understanding the Kanjis.

Fourteen of their titles explore the wonder of animals and the incredible bond that they share with humans. The Steigers have appeared on "Hard Copy", "Inside Edition", and "Entertainment Tonight;" in specials on HBO, Discovery, History, and A&E; and were featured in twenty-two episodes of the syndicated series, "Could It Be a Miracle?"

Facinating, riveting and truely an ironclad classic

While reading this book I felt a sure sense that I was touching the un-ordinary wolrd of time and space . The book gives you a chance to feel an erie sense of amazement. With plenty of overwhelming photographic evidence and well documented accounts. The reading is quite palatable and always makes great entertainment, even when you may only have five or ten minutes to read. Personally, the most uncanny thing about this book was what happened to me while reading it during a rest-break in the mountains. I paused from reading,then tuned over a stone with my foot, just at random. And it turned out to be the complete fossil of a clam shell ! Coincidence or ???

Mysteries of Time and Space

Once picked up it's impossible to put down this book. The subject matter is varied and exciting. The author manages to explain the circumstances surrounding each mystery with exceptional clarity whilst retaining the interest of the reader. Some of the stuff was a little scary but it need's to be told and known. I found the book very comtemporary and hugely relevent to todays world. Go buy it - I DARE YOU!

A Classic in every sense of the word

The re-release of Brad Steiger’s “Mysteries of Time and Space” forty-two years after its original publication affirms not only the correctness of his work, but has multiplied its value in proportion to the decline of our civilization since the mid-1970s. With the concurrent rise of America’s National Security State --- spying on millions of its own citizens, terrorizing them with tax audits, sometimes killing them if they protest too much --- his chapter entitled “Passport to Paranoia” proved to be too prescient. It is all part of “the Reality Game,” as he so aptly terms it; a consensus reality everyone is expected to unquestionably uphold at the peril of losing his or her reputation, livelihood, liberty or even life, according to the sliding scale of offense against official paradigms, which range from “conspiracy theorist” to “domestic terrorist”. Steiger’s truly great achievement here is to show just how the Reality Game is an all-encompassing tyranny of the mind, not just politically or ideologically. Its reach extends simultaneously back in time to our own historical identity, outward into spatial and temporal dimensions filled with intelligent life, and inward into human potential for godlike gifts denied and stifled by Reality Game players only interested in exploiting and controlling them. Steiger does all this with an encyclopedic wealth of source materials that have silenced his critics for the last four decades. Worse for them, he offers us these proofs in a narrative presentation as digestible as it is engaging and, in the end, overwhelmingly convincing.
