Leadership Winner

First, I would like to qualify myself as an expert regarding “leadership”. After 4 years with Booz.Allen, I created my own Corporation. Over a 30 year period, I have interviewed thousands of business and military leaders and have placed the top Presidents, CEOs, COO, CFOs, and senior executives of fortune 1000 companies worldwide. My company has performed leadership training and seminars globally using top scientists and engineers, i.e., the inventor of the Laser, as an instructor. We are asked by leaders of well-known Corporations to vet Boards of Directors.

I was introduced to Stewart Leadership, the authors of “Lead Now” John Parker Stewart and Daniel Stewart, last year and had the opportunity to read “Lead Now” which had just won a first place national award for leadership training. I was amazed, and could not put the book down. It is so easy to understand, and rings many familiar chords that we have all been exposed to. The book integrates changes based on modern technology and global interface. The world has changed so very much in 30 years and is in a dark period now where good leadership is crucial. “Lead Now” is a gem. The other books in the series are equally as powerful. I read them as well and encourage all students of leadership to benefit from 52 Leadership Gems and 52 Leadership Lessons. These two books are masterfully written for anyone who wants to polish leadership skills by learning the key principles taken from nature, history, and relationships.

Business focuses on two things, the bottom line and its people. People make the bottom line. John and Daniel understand the difference between people who just go to work and hate every minute vs. people who love their work, their boss, and their team mates. “Lead Now” helps you to be a successful leader!!

Exceptionally well put together leadership development resource that's more than just a book. Great for time-starved leaders!

LEAD NOW! has finally done it. For years I have worked as a leadership development consultant and coach, hoping to find one resource that "pulls it all together." LEAD NOW! combines an effective leadership development model with content from the best development experts in the world. The self-assessments, further reading references, notes sections, and action plan templates make this the most comprehensive and easy-to-use leadership development book on the market. Each chapter contains one of the twenty-one leadership dimensions, making each chapter easy to digest on its own. This is great news for leaders who don't have time to read an entire book, but still wish to develop specific leadership competencies quickly and effectively.

The book is also full of great content. I have worked in numerous management roles throughout my career, and had the honor of serving as a Company Commander in the U.S. Army. Whether you're a leader in sales, healthcare, government, finance, education, or another career field, I'm confident you'll find that the 21 leadership dimensions can relate to your current role.

There is one more note worth mentioning. The book was written along with a series, which includes 52 Leadership Lessons and 52 Leadership Gems. I own all three and find the complete system to be well worth the investment. The digital versions also make for great reading while traveling by air or on the train.

The wonderful feature of “Lead Now” is that it is NOT an academic text book of lengthy “Leadership Principles” or a synthesis of complex theories. Rather it is aimed at being a quickly consumed and useful handbook for real leaders. Busy excec's will find this book to be a treasure. It's small enough to carry around and can be consumed in small bites. It illuminates the subject by creating mental images that are each a little stand-alone epiphany on leadership. They are assimilated quickly, understood at a visceral level, and retained.

I have spent over 40 years leading organizations from military units to small companies to billion dollar corporations. I can tell you that real in situ leaders don't have time to sit in classrooms and study leadership or read long volumes which synthesize theories. John Parker Stewart and his son Daniel know that from over 3 decades of experience leading leaders in some of the worlds most effective companies and management teams. They know the value of time and what leaders need most. “Lead Now” illustrates the dimensions of leadership in a way that elicits a gut level understanding of the very natural human interactions that must be orchestrated to create a high performance team.

Are you having reactions from certain products and can not figure out why?
Perhaps there is an ingredient that is the culprit. This book will help you identify what certain ingredients are used for in cosmetics, and in many cases, why a person could be allergic.
I think that it is a great resource, although I find that it tiptoes around some things - I guess the author did not want to start panics by sounding too doom and gloom.
However, enough information is in the book, and it is set up well enough to allow for you to get the information you need with the ease of a good dictionary. I would say it is a good reference to have.
I found it to be very interesting, enlightening, and helpful reading. If you are at all interested in what ingredients you are putting on your body, this book is a must have. You might be surprised at what they are made of and what else they will do to you!

This book by yoga teacher and mindfulness meditator Boccio offers a welcome and ambitious synthesis that is unevenly executed. Relating the Indian sage Patanjali's teachings on yoga to Buddhist teachings, the author invites practitioners of yoga and meditation to experience yoga's asanas, or poses, as occasions for mindfulness meditation. This relationship is both novel and logical. Buddhism grew from Hindu-yoga roots, and yoga, certainly as understood in America, could use a greater appreciation of its spiritual significance. Following a discussion of Buddhist teachings grounded on some central discourses (sutras) and heavily indebted to Vietnamese Zen monk Thich Nhat Hanh, who supplies a foreword, Boccio provides four sequences of poses. The sequences generally repeat poses but are intended to lead the student to new understandings of those poses, thus encouraging growth in the discipline of yoga. As can be the case with yoga texts, this one has problems with its pictures. When poses are given in sequence, the accompanying sequence of pictures can be hard to follow, because not all steps are illustrated. Also, the instructions are not always obvious ("lift your sitting bones up as you drape your torso over your legs"). Because this book tries to do so much, it's not for beginning yoga students or meditators, but those with established practices may benefit from seeing the postures in a surprising and more spiritual light.

Exactly what a yogi needs to know

I've been doing yoga for about 5 years and began to become more interested in why we do yoga, in its spirtual underpinnings if you will. This book perfectly addresses that topic. There's an excellent description of yoga's origins and relationship to Buddhism. Moreover, it's a great tool to turn yoga asanas and movement into "moving meditation." Even in vinyasa-power yoga, there's a lot we can learn about and practice to enhance mind-body-spirit connection. This book does an outstanding job of informing the new or experienced yogi about how to gain more insight into what we really want to achieve from yoga.

About the Author

Jens Meierhenrich is Associate Professor of International Relations at the London School of Economics, and previously taught at Harvard University. His books include Lawfare and The Legacies of Law, which won the American Political Science Association's 2009 Woodrow Wilson Foundation Award for the best book on government, politics, or international affairs. He is currently at work on a genocide trilogy.

Major reader on genocide

Genocide continues to be astonishingly neglected. There are dozens of books on the problems of the banks for every one on this appalling crime, which killed over 100,000,000 people in the last 100 years. The present reader should do a great deal to help--it is a huge, comprehensive, very well-selected set of readings that cover all aspects of genocide. It is notably better than previous readers on the subject. Many of the major authors are in here, as well as reporters, literary writers, historians and other observers. There are long sections on "courts" and judgments and on "cures." Most of the readings are short, but there is plenty of guidance for further reading.
This book is a major achievement and should be on every historian's and political scientist's desk. I hope it will get more attention to a crime that is easily preventable--it has recently been prevented in several countries that were on the brink--but still happens, because the world community just isn't geared up to deal with it. We have to change, and I hope this book will be instrumental in that.
