Good for the Astronmy Library

In A to Z encyclopedia format, has a great cross-reference system which highlights a word or term if it is described elsewhere in the book. Most definitions are a little too brief for me, but what I love most about this book is its listing of the brightest stars in a constellation along with their distances which is wonderful for me since my kids are always asking how far away certain stars are and it's good to have one place to go to answer quickly. Has a very small center section with color photos -- somewhat unnecessary and probably raises the price of the book too. A great source for an amateur astronomer like me, but if you are looking for a good "first" astronomy book -- go with Dickenson's "NIGHTWATCH" and buy this one a bit later.

The controls and nothing but

Don't buy this book if you need to learn ADO.NET, file access, the common language runtime, or any other "starter" .NET topic. This book isn't a general introduction to writing a Windows application. (If you want that, read Jesse Liberty's fairly good "Programming .NET Windows Applications" instead.)

This book is a drill-down, no-holds-barred, VERY comprehensive look at programming advanced WinForms interfaces. It gives the full details on every control, complete with great advice for customizing and extending them. (Custom controls are a major theme in this book.) There's excellent content here that just can't be found in the MSDN, like tips for using layout engines, mixing web and windows contet, and multithreading an interface. This book was written with support from Microsoft's Windows Forms team, and it shows--the content on many subjects is several degrees more comprehensive that any I've seen before.

All in all, this is a stand-out choice for professional developers who already know .NET and C#.

Excellent Windows Forms and Custom Controls Coverage

This book covers everything you need to know about Windows Forms and Custom Controls. It is very thorough and well written.

The code samples work well and are well organized.

It doesn't cover the smart client gamut, like data storage, communication, or architecture in context to smart client applications. Which is ok. No book currently out covers smart client properly, but windows forms are the front end to smart clients so it would have been nice to have them placed into the smart client context.

And just to clear up the review below. Turn to page 94 for all the classic common dialogs. Mathew didn't miss anything in this book. Relate to Windows Forms UI development.

He also emphasizes using proper UI architecture and getting business logic out of the UI and develops his samples accordingly.

Outstanding!

Year to Success is a refreshing and unique perspective on getting what you want from life. The step by step formula keeps you interested and engaged, but more important, it keeps you motivated to ACT. It is evident that the author speaks from real world success. It is also clear that the purpose of this book is truly to help others get what they want out of life as opposed to just another book to get the writer some notoriety and attention. From someone who's achieved a great deal of success in my own life, I can tell you I'm learning A LOT from this book. I highly recommend it to anyone who wants to live a successful life that has meaning and purpose.

I'm not sure how this book can't change your life for the better

I have read my share of self help books and Bo Bennett and I have read many of the same ones (according to his many references in the book). This is a great book that distills many of the key learnings he has had and I love the action steps. For me, I think the way I am going to use the book is to revisit the action steps as often as possible to move from the learning position to action. I had a hard time not reading ahead and now I will revisit the "days" that I think that will really help me grow now. Great work to the author, thank you for your contribution to readers.

Awesome book for helping prayer life

This book has completely changed the way that I view my relationship with God, in a good way. I now realize why I wasn't growing and that's because I wasn't praying and reading the Bible like I should have. Reading the book is an eye-opening experience and I wish it never ended.
