Good for most of your E Class problems

The book has some drawbacks it certainly not as comprehensive on some topics but most are covered well enough to get you by if you have a decent mechanical knowledge. There are some UK online manuals that blow it out the water but all in all ill give it 4 out of 5......

The story of The Trial's publication is almost as fascinating as the novel itself. Kafka intended his parable of alienation in a mysterious bureaucracy to be burned, along with the rest of his diaries and manuscripts, after his death in 1924. Yet his friend Max Brod pressed forward to prepare The Trial and the rest of his papers for publication. When the Nazis came to power, publication of Jewish writers such as Kafka was forbidden; Kafka's writings, many of which have distinctively Jewish themes, did not find a broad audience until after World War II. (Hannah Arendt once observed that although "during his lifetime he could not make a decent living, [Kafka] will now keep generations of intellectuals both gainfully employed and well-fed.") Among the current crop of Kafka heirs is Breon Mitchell, the translator of this edition of The Trial. Rather than tidying up Kafka's unconventional grammar and punctuation (as previous translators have done), Mitchell captures the loose, uneasy, even uncomfortable constructions of Kafka's original story. His translation technique is the only way to convey the comedy and confusion of this narrative, in which Josef K., "without having done anything truly wrong," is arrested, tried, convicted and executed--on a charge that is never disclosed to him. --Michael Joseph Gross

Kafka's final work was left unfinished at the time of his 1924 death, and the original 1925 and subsequent editions were edited according to the standards of the day. This edition endeavors to restore the text as closely as possible to the original manuscript. According to the publisher, "This translation makes slight changes in the chapter divisions and sequence of chapter fragments." In addition to the text, this volume includes a bibliography and a chronology of the author's life.

The meaning of Kafkaesque..

Kafkaesque: Impenetrably oppresive or nightmarish, as in the fiction of Franz Kafka.
Indeed, "The Trial" is the epitome of this adjective used to describe the haunting novels of Franz Kafka.
Breon Mitchell's translation is fantastic as it expands and clarifies the first version by the Muirs. A lengthy translators preface is included, written by Mitchell, explaining the reasoning for this new translation based on the German definitive edition. Various examples of the text (in German) are also used in the explanations of the hows and whys.
On to the story itself. Josef K. awakens one more to find that he's been arrested. He doesn't know why and is never told. His daily life is allowed to go on over the course of the year the novel takes place, while trying to understand what is happening. Throughout this process Josef begins to sink further into paranoia and guilt, with the fate of his life in the balance....
This is a deep and dense novel, with various interpretations. It's scary to realize that this could actually happen (perhaps not on this scale) and that's one of things Kafka excels at. Taking the everyday mundane and catapulting it into the realm of the absurd and nightmarish..
The leftover fragments of "The Trial" are also included after the story, adding further insight into this tragic story. It's also worth it to pick up the Muir's translation, to see the differences, and to have the original english version to keep.
A must read.

A Crazy Train

No novel will ever approach THE TRIAL in giving one a special, and by all means necessary, appreciation for the criminal justice system and rights in the free world.

Imagine being charged with a crime tomorrow, but no one will tell you what that crime is, when you committed it, who accused you, who or what was harmed, or when your trial will take place. Then, when you talk to court workers and even your own lawyer, it's a foregone conclusion that you will be found guilty and your best hope is to drag out the process as long as you can just to STAY ALIVE as this crazy train hurtles toward your inevitable end.

A historic, nightmarish novel that plants in its reader bad-dream seeds that may not germinate for years, but they will. Oh yes, they will.

I don't deny that Kafka has a very out-of-the-box way of writing, but to be honest it didn't do it for me. While I wouldn't recommend it to someone looking for a light/fun read, if you're looking for something that will test your grip on reality, I'd take a gander. Definitely gets you talking.

He'll meet Magdalini Lambros, a young Grecian with whom he will fall in love. However, facing with the decision that could be changing his life, Janko will also discover the burden of family's curse. The novel The Touch of Love is a moving and exciting story about the history of family Antonijevic; about an impossible but irresistible love imbued with passion, trust, suffering and sacrifice. It is a story about a curse which gives and takes away and about an omen which links the generations through war and peace. The novel The Touch of Love is for the time being available only in Serbian.

Beka Mitic Ristic was born in Vranje, Serbia. She is a seasoned radio and TV reporter. Beka lives and works in Nis. This is her first novel. An exciting and affectionate record about a difficult period of time and people who had been living it, striving to their best, but being repeatedly hit by hard circumstances from without and confusion from within. The ambient and communication are presented in a great detail and in the local, colorful language. The inner world of heroes and heroines is expressed powerfully and realistically, without resolving to either sentimentalist thrill or a depression. People in this novel continue their life through both hard and gentle impacts of destiny, and succeed to grasp a little place under sun for themselves. The love from young hearts might gets shattered but not extinct, the hope survives and the life wins.

A Must Read for Mothers of Teenage Girls

This book is a must for mothers of teenage girls. It helps mothers to understand that being a teenage girl in today's world is different to her world. That teen girls face problems we did not. It helps us to understand how to talk with them about difficult topics such as boys, sex, pornography, the Internet, self-harm and a range of other issues. The book also tackles the issue of why teenage girls often do not openly discuss their problems and concerns with their mothers/parents. The author Susie Shellenberger is the founding editor of a magazine for teenage girls, a former teacher and a youth pastor and well placed to write about such issues. As a child/adolescent psychologist and a mother I recognise the value of this book and its contribution to parenting girls in this era.

This was a tremendously difficult book to read. It was very hard to step back and take a completely honest look at myself and the relationship I have with my daughter. It was also astonishingly difficult to see what’s really going on in their lives.
I can’t say enough – and this point is also made in the book – that the thing that teens need most is just someone to listen to them. Find a teen and give them that non-judgmental ear that they so desperately need!!
