Dr. Cornelissen has spent many years studying Indian psychology, and has worked hard to inspire university-based psychologists in India to take seriously the idea that the Indian philosophic and spiritual tradition has much to offer contemporary scientific psychology. Foundations of Indian Psychology consists of essays by numerous highly qualified academicians describing various ways in which Indian psychology can make practical contributions to our contemporary understanding of the human mind.

As if this weren't enough, it is clear from a careful reading of the various essays that many of the greatest mysteries yet facing modern science - the greatest being the mystery of consciousness - might find novel solutions from Indian psychology. The final four chapters of the book cover company issues that shed light on what helps firms succeed in international markets. This should help instructors who teach in programs that are more agribusiness oriented. The chapters on foreign direct investment and competitiveness take a large-picture view of factors influencing firm behavior and success, while the chapters on export analysis and strategy are oriented toward steps that firms must take in entering and expanding their international markets. The chapters on Europe and China are quite different than the others. The European Union is mentioned throughout the book, so it is important to understand the unique E.U. context. China has been such a large focus for food markets in recent years that it also merits a chapter. One cannot understand world agricultural markets without understanding these important countries. This text is written for those who have had an intermediate microeconomics class because trade issues can be understood best through extensive graphical analysis. The book attempts to make linkages back to everyday life through examples and case studies so that the learning experience is enhanced. Any professor can find numerous current events that support the chapters during a typical semester.

An Exemplar of Chess Opening Books

Rizzitano's "How to Beat 1 d4" is an example of how opening repetoire books should be written. The reader can tell how meticulously the author approached this work- all the relevant analysis, along with many suggested improvements from the author himself. The book presents the Queen's Gambit Accepted as the centerpiece of the repetoire, and also offers lines against all of White's second-move alternatives. A welcome bonus is analysis of 3 e3 e5 in the QGA, which allows Black to play alternatives such as 4...Bg4 in the main line after 3 Nf3 Nf6 4 e3. A great work.

Won my first two QGA games after reading this book

I'm an ICCF Master Class player and I recently bought Rizzitano's book "How to beat 1.d4". I ever had problem with black vs 1.d4 and I read with great interest Rizzitano's book. The book was clear, extremely interesting, up to date, with all strategic ideas behind the opening well analysed and explained.

I recently tried the QGA in an ICCF Master Class tournament (EM-M-307) and the result was : +2 =0 -0 that is 100% for the first 2 QGA I ever played!!!!

Compliments to the author: the good result I get in the tournament is fully due to his book!!!

Great Book

This is an amazing book, extremely detailed and thorough. It is a totally complete repertoire against 1.d4. I don't know what the last reviewer is talking about. Contrarily, this one of the most complete and thorough opening repertoire books I've ever seen.

This is your road map when white plays 1.d4. Keep in mind that it's a repertoire book, not an instructional manual on how to play every single move in every single position. (But it comes close!) One thing the book lacks is an "Illustrative Games" section. If this is your only reference, then you will need to either find a supplemental book, well annotated QGA games, or a coach to help you work through the positions once the analysis stops.

The good news is that he basically quotes his sources on every book, game fragment, and annotator. If you want to see more, just pull the game up on your computer and have at it. This is a window into a titled player's opening preparation, so be prepared to do some work to digest the material.

I think this is good for players rated 1800+, because it can be an overwhelming amount of material at some points. It is definitely *not* the "Easy Guide" to the QGA.

I am looking forward to seeing more from the meticulously thorough Rizzitano.

I am an avid reader of hbr and I've really tried to step up my reading about EI. There are several great articles but the articles in the end of the book seem to struggle to add value. It's a great book but you may be better off getting a subscription to hbr.org and pull up more articles on your own.

Mastering Your Emotion is an Important Skill! This Book Helps!

There is no doubt now that having a well-honed emotional intelligence will make it easy for an individual to succeed, especially during this time when every opportunity to connect is available. This maybe one of the reasons why organizations such as Harvard Business Review continuously devote time, effort and financial resources to help our leaders all around the globe regardless of industry or occupation develop these sets of competencies.

In this book, HBR compiles the best collections of its magazine articles which deal with different aspects of emotional intelligence. Of course, the discussion of this subject will not be complete without citing the works of Daniel Goleman. Hence, the very first article you will read is What Makes a Leader. This article discusses the different components of emotional intelligence, namely, self-awareness, self-regulation, motivation, empathy, and social skills.

Other articles are also treasure-trove of wisdom. In the Price of Incivility: Lack of respect hurts morale-and the bottom line Christine Porath and Christine Pearson talks about the negative effect of rude behaviors in different companies. While Diane Coutu deals with resiliency, Andrew Campbell and his other colleagues answer Why Good Leaders Make Bad Decisions.

I find each article helpful in its own right. There are things that make me think about the things around me. More importantly, the most important lesson I learned in this collection of articles is that being emotionally intelligent requires actual experience and practice. You cannot learn this by just reading this book. You must act on it and it a part of your behaviors. But first you must know what you need to practice. This book will help.

Great collection of articles on EI. The first article on What Makes a Leader is probably the best HBR article that I've ever read. The articles on EI have been beneficial throughout my career. I revisit them periodically when I feel I need a reminder on how to use my EI skills.

When Sadhguru uses the word 'Adiyogi', he can mean either 'that which is not', or Shiva, the first ever Yogi who perceived that emptiness experientially, and in Sadhguru's own experience, they are not separate and he travels seamlessly between these two definitions. Chronicles, some of which are in the form of myths, occupy a prominent position in this book and if one goes with the intellect to discern it, one will miss the point entirely. Miss Subramaniam, the co- author of the book, is there as a representative of a contemporary society where psychological realities reign supreme. Saying that, she has played her part really well, as she very briefly sketches her own personal journey from a once skeptic disciple to the one who now leans on the bedrock of trust laid out by her guru, atleast on spiritual matters, notwithstanding the occasional thought waves of onslaught instigated by her mind, like the majority of us. The last section of the book is in the form of a dialogue where Arundhathi asks Sadhguru regarding the need of this particular book, how the various categorisations of Adiyogi as a mythological, metaphysical,cosmological and existential figure adds up in the long run, and above all, how Sadhguru's own inner experiences helps in presenting this complex phenomenon before a person living in this age.
