This well written fantasy continues.

The story takes place 6 years after The Wizard of Bright Isle. This second book is more an exciting fantasy adventure than romance. This is expected as the villain escaped and wreck havoc on the kingdom. But the love between Kieran and Eduoard is always there even if the boys have not acknowledged their love for each other. They are inseparable as Kieran serves as Eduoard's bodyguard. Their closeness is ofcourse frowned upon even by well meaning friends/caretakers. They do take the next step in their relationship towards the end of the book, which I thought the writer handles well with some comical moments from well wishers. The writing is just as engaging and the magical elements are entertaining and refreshing. The secondary characters take up important roles in the development of the story. I have no problem with that as the pace is fast and most of these secondary characters are interesting in their own rights. As I have said there is nothing new in the idea but this writer's version is fresh, her magical ideas original. Certain parts like Kieran's action to gain trust from his wizard colleagues and the way the villain is ultimately captured especially stand out and shows the writer's creativity. And for just close to 3 bucks, this is money so well spent for an entertaining day.

Leaves me willing to finish the series..

Just finised reading the second book of this triolgy. It's not only about the two main characters but other side action getting fair play. The innocence of fourteen year olds' awkwardness in the first book continues in early young adulthood with the two main actors. Condemnation and eventually cautious acceptance by associates of this male pair gives the story a tenderness. Although, no explicit sex scenes, the affection and closeness between the king and his servant(companion, bodygaurd, wizard, lover) is precious. I'm looking forward to the conclusion of this story by this talented writer.

Exceptional! This series is filled with love, intrigue, adventure, and lots of magic!
I am so thankful I have found these stories. The author (MomsDarkSecret) writes
easy to read, feel-good stories that fuel one's imagination. She has become one
of my favorite authors, and to be honest, one that I consistently purchase, even
on a tight budget, as I know that it is money well spent and will enchant me from

Energy Work Plus some good Historical Information

The Hexagradior is an interesting book. I'm not sure that it lives up to it's subtitle "The Bible of Magic," but it does cover a lot of ground over a relatively short number of pages. Subjects covered are as diverse as palmistry, astrology, "opening rituals" of the demonic, satanic, and wiccan variety, a brief introduction to many popular grimoires (and some obscure ones) and traditional magical texts, along with a collection of spells at the end that come from both traditional sources (such as the Solomonic traditions of magic) and a few non-tradional sources ("private grimoires" and Huson's "Mastering Witchcraft" to name a couple).

The Hexagradior text proper is a short work on what I can only call energy working. The text covers the theory of subtle matter and its transmission and control, along with a number of exercises to get one familiar with the practical applications of the energy in question. Throughout the text the author discusses russian research on the para-normal, which was very interesting! One thing that did dissappoint me, however, was the fact that the theory and techniques in the Hexagradior were never applied directly to the spells at the end of the book. Some applications are, of course, self-explanatory, but suggestions on how to apply the energy work to such things as doll-magic and so on would have improved the usefulness of the book. Especially since the Hexagradior text declares it is able to make anyone with dedication enough to apply its techniques an effective magician.

In closing I'd like to comment on the author's distate for the word "the." Throughout the work it is simply missing. This doesn't offer too much confusion, but it does occassionally throw the reader off track. I'm not sure if this was intentional or not, but I found it annoying.

Pros and Cons

The Hexagradior is a volume of information that I strongly suggest being a part of anyone's personal occult library. However, with that being said I do want to list the pros and cons for the work.

PROS:
* Well written and presented in a direct format.
* A very interesting historical backgrounds concerning occult tests.
* Though brief, a very informative section upon the most recognized grimoires
* The spells are interesting that are within the last part of the book.

CONS:
* The Hexagradior Text itself is a bit brief with it's steps when it comes down to the sensations one will feel if done properly.
* The practical application in magic of what is learned from the Hexagradior is not directly spoke of, which in my opinion could cause a few people whom are inexperienced to be lost in its use.
* Some of the spells in the last part of the book are impractical for use in the world we live in today due to reagents use for the spell. Example: The Hand of Glory calls for the right or left hand of a criminal hung exposed on a main road.
(Note: The author does not claim to have written the spells in the book, but does list where they were taken from; therefore, it is more for an example of how similar spells from different sources have similar and different aspects of casting/use.)

Over all The Hexagradior deserves 5 stars easily for the amount of information presented within its pages. For a beginner, the book is great and I can say the same for those more experienced as well. As far as, "Does it work?" well, before I ever had access to the Hexagradior I accidentally found the energy/ether written about and have made use of it years before the Hexagradior came in print within this volume. Yes, it does work, though results will vary with each person because of natural talent if you jump in head first without truly understanding what you are using.

It really is the Bible of magic if you know how to utilize it...

Not only does the book contain the text of the Hexagradior - it also contains information on case studies for magic and how magic works, as well as energy exercises and rituals not common in today's plethora of books about the subject. The author also includes some rarer workings and information about the magician and astrological charts that is quite interesting. This is a very informative book, and one that should be on every working magician's bookshelf.

Yawn...

With chapters consisting of the Velvet Underground, New York Dolls, CBGB's, the Pistols, and even a chapter devoted to fanzines, you'd suspect this was a great book. Sadly, it is just a big waste of time. The book is the product of eight years of "scholarly research" into the punk rock "style." So we get such important information as: where the style came from, and she points out direct links between the New York underground and the British punk movement. You know, the important elements of punk rock. She continually emphasizes that this aspect of punk was never studied in a "scholarly" way. And upon completion of this book, I understand why. It's boring and stupid.

Printed back in 1988, it reads as though it was a project done by a high school student who had no prior insight into punk rock - and certainly never listened to the music. The primary method of her research was through previously written material in books and magazines. Of the countless sources of invaluable information she accumulated, she must have gained a wealth of information by reading not one, but two books about Boy George.
What wins me over is the comparison she makes of punk to an art form called Dada, which existed between 1916-1922 in France. "Members of the punk movement have often referred to themselves as neo-dada." I know I always do, how `bout you? Not surprisingly, key players from the early days of punk (Johnny Rotten, Malcolm McLaren, Lou Reed, etc.) declined doing interviews with the author.
At one point, she states: "To my knowledge, no sheet music of original Ramones compositions has been published, though the chorus to "Now I Wanna Sniff Some Glue" is decipherable." She then writes out the chorus of the song. She did the same thing with Richard Hell's "Blank Generation." In the same chapter, she explains, "Punk Magazine can be categorized as a fanzine." She illustrates her point by giving us Webster's definition of a fanzine. Brilliant!
In her intro, the author states that the zines that were available (to her) weren't documented in a manner that allows extensive verification. I don't know what kind of extensive verification she was looking for, but for whatever reason, she still wrote a chapter about fanzines. Unfortunately she only had a few issues of a couple different zines to use as reference and base her statements on (a few issues of Punk, a couple Sniffin' Glues, and one Ripped & Torn). With this extensive library at her fingertips, she went on and compared the content of Punk Magazine (issue 1) to that of Sniffin' Glue (issue 3). She compared the number of pages, the amount of staff members each publication had, which one was devoted more to music than humor. I mean, come on, is that really necessary?
She continued aggravating me by stating that: "as we study the fanzines, it's important to remember that not everything the punks say can or should be taken at face value." Why are we studying fanzines!? They are written by fans of the music, because they love the music. And they are read and enjoyed (not studied) by fans of the music, because they love the music too. It's as simple as that.
In her conclusion, I read the first intelligent statement, but quickly realized it was a quote from none other than Lester Bangs. Needless to say, this is the worst book I've ever had the displeasure of reading. I can't even figure out who this could have been directed to - certainly not punks. Overly-academic, but not uninformed

I disagree with the assumption in the other Amazon reviews that Trisha Henry was an uninformed outsider, looking in on punk and getting it all wrong... She's just an academic, fercrissakes, writing for an academic audience!! I'm sure she was just as punk as you are, it's just that when you're writing your graduate thesis (which is what this book originally was) you kinda have to be a bit, um, academic. She does an admirable job translating the anti-authoritarian, pro-artist ethos of punk into scholarly jargon -- the trouble with this book isn't that she didn't know what she was talking about, it's just that hearing it all expalined so clinically is nowhere near as fun as playing a Sex Pistols album at full blast. It's worth checking out, if you want to see how DIY translates into PhD.
