Best resource out there

*DISCLAIMER* I am not a physical therapist...I have a connective tissue disorder, so my hips and shoulders are unstable. At age 27, my entire body started to fall apart. I am still trying to put it back together.
I have been through several physical therapists and they all seem to regurgitate the same information and do not address the entire body. Dr. Osar's approach is out of the box, but ironically, full of common sense. I would HIGHLY recommend this as a resource for anyone with winged scapulae. They are particularly hard to treat and traditional approaches to shoulder rehab will actually make you worse.

Functional Movement

As a woman in her late seventies who is active and works out, I found Evan Osar's book to be an excellent resource for all things related to body movement. The book is well-organized with lots of images and references to videos for ease in understanding. He covers basic principles of movement that I find helpful in my activities of daily living. He also describes specific exercises that I refer to on a regular basis because the format is so easy to follow:
"Key to Performance" tells me how to do the exercise.
"Client Sensation" tells me how I should be feeling.
Overall the book really speaks to me.
So if you are interested in fitness you will definitely like Evan Osar's book.

The Best Book for Healing Your Shoulder!!!

I am performing the crawling exercises recommended in this book, and it is healing my shoulder impingement rapidly. This is absolutely amazing ... who would have thought that simple crawling exercises would correct shoulder impingement and rotator cuff injuries! Apparently it works by neurologically remapping the brain to specific muscle movements through repetition. These crawling exercises were first developed by Dr. Vaclav Vojta in the 1950's and have been used ever since to treat babies born with cerebral palsy. Just think about it ... how did we first, as babies, develop correct functional movement and strength -- through crawling, of course! In my opinion, these crawling exercises are much more therapeutic than the traditional exercises that are prescribed for rotator cuff injury by physical therapists. On a side note, if you have pain in any part of your body (other than your shoulder), I highly recommend a book called "The Egoscue Method of Health Through Motion (a yoga-based method). In two months, it cured the carpal tunnel, tennis elbow, and shoulder pain that I had suffered from for over 30 years. In reading the boook, I found that most pain in our bodies is caused by poor posture, prolonged sitting, and lack of exercise. "The Egoscue Method of Health Through Motion" helped me to correct all of my postural issues (a lower right shoulder, an elevated and torqued right hip, cartilage damage in my knees, over-pronating ankles, and fallen arches) in two months. Another book that I highly recommend is called "Movement: Functional Movement Systems" by Gray Cook, who prescribes crawling exercises to fix shoulder impingement.
