This book delivers precisely what the title promises. I try to read this book every 5 years, or less, to see what I missed the last time I read it. This is a book that should be mandatory both in high school, and college. The post WW I generation of the German speakign world produced some very good thinkers, including many of those who shaped Quantum Mechanics, though history has allowed Adolf and crew to overshadow them. I had the priviledge of sitting in on Rudolf Arnheim's lectures, in college. Visual Thinking: Thirty-Fifth Anniversary Printing His prose was extremely clear, and like a lake with no turbulence, one could see to the point, or bottom of the lake, metaphorically, with great clarity. This book should never be updated, it is so valuable as is. It is an adventure in thinking, as surely as the Anabasis (The Persian Expedition) was an adventure. In scope, for its subject, I could compare this book to Lifetide, for Biology. It is not merely dry parts, it is the 5 blind men of Hindustan suddenly getting their sight, and seeing the elephant for the first time. The Seven Mysteries of Life is another book that must have taken 20 years of gathering, to write. If the Next Whole Earth Catalogs were still around, this book would be cited, in its subject area, as one of the top 3, if not the best. This book, along with Art of Readable Writing, are something that everyone who communicates with language would find useful. I send books to colleges in the third world, out of my own pocket. Since Surface Mail ended, this is now expensive, even in flat rate boxes, so I only send very high value books. This is a book I send. If more Germans had thought this way, in the '30's, Hitler and crew would not have gained power. The checklists for solving problems, at p. 118 and 148 in my edition, is remarkably useful. NLP practicioners don't use all these questions. This book is about clear perception, doing for thinking and problem-solving what Tracking and the Art of Seeing: How to Read Animal Tracks and Sign does for tracking. If I had to teach high school with only 10 books, this would be one of the 10.

John Beynon is Reader in Media, Cultural and Communication Studies at the University of Glamorgan, Wales, UK. Amongst his recent publications (both with David Dunkerley) are Perspectives on Globalization (1999) and Globalization: The Reader (2000). He has lectured in cultural, media and communication studies in Britain, Europe and the USA for over 25 years. About the Author

Carole A. Kenner, PhD, NNP, RN, FAAN, is nationally and internationally renowned for her policy-setting work to establish rights of the neonate, standards for neonatal care, and the reduction of infant mortality worldwide. She is the College of New Jersey’s Carol Kuser Loser Dean of the School of Nursing, Health, and Exercise Science, and has held many titles, including Dean/Professor, School of Nursing, and Associate Dean, Bouve College of Health Sciences, at Northeastern University, Boston, MA, and Adjunct Professor, Case Western Reserve University, Cleveland, OH. She also serves as President, Consultants with Confidence, Inc., West Roxbury, MA; Consultant, Excelsior University Online Program, Albany, NY; and Trainer, End-of-Life Nursing Education Consortium in Pediatric Palliative Care (ELNEC), Washington, DC. She has published over 75 peer-reviewed journal articles, 30 books, and at least 80 book chapters. Dr. Kenner has participated as PI, Co-PI or Consultant on nearly 60 research grants. She is a member of four honorary organizations, including the AAN (elected 1994) and many others. Dr. Kenner is a member of numerous review panels, editorial boards, and consultant groups.

Judy Wright Lott, PhD, BC-NNP, RN, FAAN, is Dean, Baylor University School of Nursing (TX) since 2002. She was a Neonatal NP (NNP) 2004-2005; Associate Professor of Nursing and Director of NNP Specialty, at the University of Cincinnati College of Nursing (1996-2002); and Assistant Professor, Neonatal Graduate specialty, University of Florida College of Nursing (1986-1990). She has worked in the clinical setting in various capacities since 1976. From 1992–1996, she was the NNP Service Director/Associate Professor of Nursing (joint appointment) at the Children’s Hospital Medical Center, University of Cincinnati College of Nursing, where she also was responsible for the administration of the NNP Service of the Level III NICU (1992-1996); and NNP Coordinator, Carolinas Medical Center, Charlotte, NC, where she was responsible for 12 NNPs. Dr. Lott was inducted into the AAN (2003), the AACN Fuld Leadership for Academic Nursing Program (2003-2004), and Visiting Professor for the Perinatal Society of Australia and New Zealand (2001). She has co-authored three editions of Comprehensive Neonatal Nursing with Dr. Kenner.

I started reading this book about 3months ago to prepare myself for a Neonatal Course. This book is well written, I found the content easy to read. The information is presented in a clear manner. I highly recommend this book.

Excellent source for problem solvers

Mathematical Reflections: the first two years, is an excellent book for anyone who has a passion for mathematics and has some background in problem solving.

The first two sections provide a compilation of well-selected elegant problems from all around the world, with thoroughly explained solutions. This large spectrum of problems gives the reader a deep satisfaction upon working through them and learning different techniques. In the third section the author assembled a collection of over thirty articles on fairly advanced topics that will surely benefit any reader interested in advanced mathematics.

With the seemingly endless amount of problems, the reader is guaranteed to find pleasure in this book, provided that he dedicates reasonable amount of time for it.

This is the second book in the Mathematical Reflections series. As I noted in my review for the first book of the series, these problems are contributed by math enthusiasts from all over the world to the online journal, Mathematical Reflections.

The book has a Problems, Solutions, and Articles section and the levels are Junior, Senior, Undergraduate and Olympiad.

If you are interested in exploring a wide array of mathematical topics with individuals who are passionate and knowledgeable, this is the book for you. There are discoveries to be made in the fields of Geometry and Algebra, of course, but also in other areas such as Linear Algebra, Calculus, and Graph Theory.
